The first 22 km are flat and the course runs along the coast. The next 8 kilometers are a bit hilly. The first bigger gradient starts at km 30, is 2.8 km long, 95 meters of altitude difference are to be managed with an average gradient of 4.3%. From km 38 a long ascent begins, which brings us close to the holy mountain of Bali, the Gunung Agung. On 18 km we have to master 608 meters of altitude difference. We reach this altitude at km 56 with beautiful views over the volcanic surroundings of Gunung Agung. Bamboo forests alternate with rice terraces.
Up to km 70 we go up and down like a rollercoaster. At km 74 the long distance divides from the medium one.
This is the begin of the Kintamani Climb. On 21 km there are 948 meters of altitude difference with an average gradient of 4.5%. On the right there are fantastic views of Gunung Agung. At km 93 the crater rim of Kintamani is reached and you have a beautiful view of the crater lake Danau Batur. We follow the road along the crater up to km 97 and from there it is only downhill to the coastal road, which is reached after 33 km. At km 118 both distances reunite. The last 4 km to the Finish Line are covered flat on the coastal road.
LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only the finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course. Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.
MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.
THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Bali race jersey, which is mandatory attire at the race. The jersey is designed in NYC and Made in Italy.
CHIP TIMING: GFNY Bali is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results for all riders will be provided at the finish area on race day and online after the race.
FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Bali finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they completed. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2023 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.
